Kentucky Vacation September 2002 It was funny the things I learned on this vacation. Stephen Foster who wrote the song "My Old Kentucky Home" did not live in the home he wrote the song about, and quite frankly was not a Kentuckian, but was from Pennsylvania. He just wrote the song in honor of the homestead of his cousin he was visiting. I learned that Jim Beam bourbon is purposely stored in oak barrels that have been charred on the inside, so the combination of burnt wood along with the alcohol gives it a unique taste. If stored too long, bourbon tastes to much like wood. I also want to move to Kentucky because of the beauty of its land and people. |
